Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how the Smart Bookmarks AI Chrome extension handles and protects your data.

1. Data Collection and Usage

Smart Bookmarks AI operates locally on your machine.

* Bookmarks Data: The extension reads your local Chrome bookmarks to display, deduplicate, and organize them. Bookmarks are modified only when you explicitly approve an AI organization plan or delete a bookmark.

* Browsing History: The extension queries local browser history for bookmarks to calculate visit counts and show usage metrics in the Insights tab. This history data remains strictly in your browser and is never stored, logged, or transmitted by the extension.

* User Settings & API Keys: Any configuration settings, preferences, and third-party API keys (such as Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini developer keys) are stored securely on your local device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API.

2. Permissions Utilized

To perform its core functions, the extension requests the following permissions from your browser:

* bookmarks: Required to view and manage your folder trees, organize bookmarks, and remove duplicates.

* history: Required to retrieve visit counts and relative visit times for bookmarked sites, enabling the popular links insights.

* storage: Required to save your settings, preferences, and API keys locally and securely.

3. Data Transmission to Third Parties

* Chrome Built-In AI (Gemini Nano): If using Chrome's offline Gemini Nano, all processing is performed entirely on your physical machine. No data is sent over the network.

* Third-Party AI Providers (Claude / Gemini API): If you opt to use external models (Anthropic Claude API or Google Gemini Developer API), the extension communicates directly with their respective official API endpoints (api.anthropic.com and generativelanguage.googleapis.com) via secure HTTPS requests. Your API keys and bookmark titles are sent directly to these endpoints to generate organization plans. No intermediate or tracking servers are used.

* Zero Monetization or Sale: We do not sell, trade, rent, or monetize your data. We do not use trackers, analytics tools, or advertising scripts.

4. Your Consent

By using the Smart Bookmarks AI extension, you consent to this local data handling policy. If you configure a third-party API key, you also agree to send query contexts to your selected AI provider under their respective terms of service.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above and distributed via extension updates.
